Top Tigers

Auburn University and the Auburn Athletics Department take pride in the accomplishments of our student-athletes. In that spirit, every April the top student-athletes are honored at the Tiger Torch Awards. During this recognition ceremony student-athletes are acknowledged for their academic achievements. Included in the awards given are:

SEC Academic Honor Roll
To qualify, a student-athlete must earn a minimum grade point average of 3.00 for the preceding academic year and must have successfully completed 24 semester (or 36 quarter hours) of credit.

Top Tigers
To qualify for this honor, student-athletes must achieve a minimum 3.00 grade point average for the past two semesters, except for freshmen and transfers which is based on the Fall GPA, or maintain a minimum cumulative 3.00 grade point average.

CHAMPS/Life Skills Community Service Award
Top award given for participation in community service, public appearances, SAAC sponsored events and overall involvement in the CHAMPS /Life Skills program.

Community Service: Most Improved Award
Given to the team that increased their community service efforts during the past year.

Induction into The National College Athlete Honor Society
Auburn University is the third university in the state of Alabama to join Chi Alpha Sigma. Auburn University is the Alabama Gamma Chapter. This Honor Society was established to recognize college Student-Athletes who earn a varsity letter in at least one sport while maintaining a 3.40 or higher cumulative grade point throughout their junior and senior years.

Developing Student Award
Awarded to a member of each team that has increased their GPA the most from the Spring 2008 semester to the Fall 2008 semester.

Most Improved GPA
Awarded to a male and female Top Tiger with the most improved GPA as determined by comparison of an individual's cumulative GPA to their Spring 2008 and Fall 2008 combined GPA.

Highest team GPA
Awarded to one male team and one female team with the highest combined Spring 2008 and Fall 2008 Grade Point Average.

Scholar Athlete of the Year
Awarded to the male and female junior or senior Top Tiger with a minimum 3.40 GPA selected by the Tiger Torch Award Selection Committee that most exemplifies the following:

Passion Award Inspired by Virgil Starks, III
This award is presented to the student-athlete who exemplifies the most passion for academics, community service, team work and personal growth. The winner of this award is selected from all of the Scholar-Athlete of the Year Nominees by the Tiger Torch Award Selection Committee.
